Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Associate Level Hydrogeologist in its Mining, Minerals and Metals business line. The primary focus of this position is to take a technical lead role in support of our regional and international natural resource and industrial clients. The individual will engage in complex projects related to saturated and unsaturated flow and transport through geologic formations and managed material media.
The successful candidate will evaluate geochemical characteristics of subsurface flow and assist in the management or mitigation of impacted groundwaters. The individual will provide guidance, support and mentorship to the existing geoscience team throughout our international Mining, Minerals and Metals business line support of projects.
The position can be located in Stantec’s Denver, CO; Fort Collins, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; or Chandler AZ office. This position interacts throughout the global organization internally and externally with client and members of business and professional organizations. Travel may be required and some projects require visiting remote sites.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
- Developing mine water management approaches including water budgets, mine dewatering, waste material impoundments and groundwater containment/mitigation
- Executing hydrogeological and geochemical characterizations including large well design, groundwater aquifer characterization, water quality analysis, aquifer test design and analyses, data analyses and strong technical report writing skills.
- Numerical modeling of water flow and contaminant transport in saturated and unsaturated stratum
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Ability to develop a strong network in the local and international marketplace.
- Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication and attention to detail skills.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of a Master of Science degree in Hydrogeology or a related field.
- Minimum of 20 years of relevant, increasingly responsible experience
- Professional registration (PG or PE) or the ability to obtain a registration.
- Experience and capability in the following areas are strongly desired:
- Mine water management, mine closure, and feasibility studies for the mining industry
- State and Federal regulations pertaining to water management.
- Planning, designing and managing numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport models.
- Planning and executing complex field investigations for groundwater and geochemical characterizations
- Project management including developing detailed budgets, determining project scope, establishing schedules, processing appropriate paperwork, and interacting with clients.
- Marketing and preparing proposals and assist in preparing and providing presentations.
- Understanding the CERCLA and RCRA process and for environmental related projects.
