Your Opportunity
The Lead Protection and Control Engineer will report to the Manager, P&C Engineering. As a Lead P&C Engineer you will be responsible for designing projects, performing Protection and Control studies, protective relay settings, logics, calculations, quality assurance and quality control on projects and coordination. As well as for the delivery of substation automation system for our high voltage substation projects. The Lead P&C Engineer works within multi-disciplinary teams to assist in developing efficient and reliable substation designs. An opportunity to supervise and mentor other engineers and designers. Familiarity with SCADA systems is desirable. Experience in P&C design for Green and Brown field stations is required.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform CT Saturation studies
- Mentor technical staff with various level of experience and geographical presence.
- Perform QA/QC and peer review on design packages.
- Deliver P&C packages as per project timelines and allocated budget
- Acts as a key contributor to the development of P&C application documents to define P&C design scope, philosophies, methodologies, and criteria for medium and high-voltage substation projects
- Perform P&C system studies/calculations/coordination and generate relay settings to be integrated and configured into IEDs
- Develop control building layout, P&C one-line diagram, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service, AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material, cable schedule, etc.
- Determine station service loading requirements and perform battery sizing calculations
- Review the design basis memorandum, detailed engineering scope, and guide the assigned discipline engineers/designers to align the engineering deliverables according to project requirements
- Review and accept vendor submittals to confirm compliance with applicable technical specifications and industry standards
- Provide construction support including resolving site queries through and RFI and/or submittal process, attending site meetings and perform site inspections before/during the construction phase of projects
- Plan, organize and manage the day-to-day activities of the project from inception through engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Oversee or prepare the development of man hour estimates and proposals.
- Interact extensively with clients, including developing new and maintaining existing relationships.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Exercises high degree of independence, latitude, and judgment to plan and organize all aspects of transformational program/project activities
- Demonstrates the ability to make decisions and recommendations that have direct impact on programs, projects, business operations
- Experience in training & mentoring engineers
- Exhibit originality in providing innovative, practical and economical solutions.
- Provide expertise to internal and external clients to resolve complex issues/assignments.
- Experience in P&C system studies, relay setting, wide area coordination studies, automation system design and field commissioning for medium voltage and high voltage substation projects for utilities industry
- Plans, conducts, and directs complex assignments with a high degree of independence.
- Assignments/projects are complex in nature and require the application of broad engineering knowledge in multiple disciplines. Ability to conduct P&C system study and relay setting/calculations/coordination using CAPE, Aspen One-liner, ETAP or SKM is desired
- Ability to perform relay testing and commissioning is a plus.
- Proficient with MS Office, Advanced skills with MS Excel; familiarity with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to engage internal and external clients and convey technical knowledge
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- PE Required.
- Minimum of 10 years of consulting engineering and/or direct power delivery experience with increasing levels of responsibility for staff, projects, and clients.
