Your Opportunity
The energy transition is in full swing, as the world races to shift to lower carbon or no carbon fuels. An integral part of this transition is building the transmission lines and renewable energy infrastructure necessary to meet net-zero goals. Your role as environmental scientist/planner will include assisting with the delivery of electrical transmission line routing and substation siting projects for investor-owned utilities and independent transmission developers, permitting for a variety of infrastructure projects (including renewable energy), and supporting field surveys for natural resources. In this role, you will participate as a writer and technical support person for routing and siting and/or environmental permitting projects. You will also assist with writing proposals, developing plans, and implementing steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities and/or natural resource survey experience a plus.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Complete tasks according to approved scopes of work.
- Assist with routing and siting studies for linear and/or renewable energy projects and associated facilities.
- Contribute to the development of NEPA planning documents and technical studies.
- Assist with 401/404 permit applications for energy, transportation, and water infrastructure projects.
- Contribute to business development activities, including proposals and pre-qualifications.
- Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including seeking opportunities for new business.
- Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
- Conduct GIS mapping and/or field surveys for natural resources.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Demonstrated experience with routing and siting projects, NEPA documents, or similar environmental assessment, planning and documentation.
- Capable and confident technical writer.
- An understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) processes and capabilities (prior GIS expertise preferred, but current GIS expertise is not required).
- An understanding of wetlands, waters of the US, threatened and endangered species and other natural resources.
- Skilled in communications and technical information exchange with a variety of audiences.
- Disciplined approach to completing tasks.
- Shows a desire to continuously improve technical performance.
- Welcomes new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
- Builds and maintains productive networking relationships.
- Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a Bachelor’s or higher in environmental science, planning, engineering, or related field with demonstrated experience with environmental planning, assessment and documentation. Experience of 7-10 years is desired.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, walking for extended periods.
