Your Opportunity

Our team is actively seeking an entry-level Water Resources Engineer to join our Dam and Levee Team in the southeastern United States.  This position will be located at one of our offices in Virginia, preferably Richmond or Williamsburg.  The role involves performing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) calculations, conducting dam inspections, writing technical reports, and assisting the development of construction documents under the supervision of a Project Manager and Senior Engineer.  The successful candidate will be working with engineers from multiple disciplines to solve complex problems involving dams and spillways around the country.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety, and security guidelines and policies.
  • Perform engineering design tasks on assigned projects under the supervision of the Project Technical Lead or Project Manager.
  • Performing calculations using HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ArcGIS computer software.
  • Developing construction drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Writing technical reports.
  • Perform field investigations as needed.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Licensed EIT required with the goal of obtaining a PE license
  • Possesses excellent time management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule.
  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Possesses a hard-working and positive attitude with a strong desire to learn and understand the Virginia DCR regulations involving impounding structures.   
  • Proficient with ESRI software, including ArcGIS preferred.

Education and Experience

Possess a Bachelor’s in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s degree preferred) with 0-5 years’ experience. Experience in projects involving dams and spillways is preferred.
