Your Opportunity
Our Southwestern Ontario Transportation Group has an opportunity for a Planning or Civil Engineering Co-op Student within our Transportation Planning and Smart(ER) Mobility practice. The position is located out of our Waterloo office with the opportunity to support work across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. The interconnection between technology, infrastructure, and transportation—has the potential to enhance communities by supporting economically viable, resilient, and socially equitable transportation networks that prioritize people, goods and partnerships, as we transition to the next generation of mobility.
Our Southwestern Ontario based Smart(ER) Mobility Transportation team is diverse and works on a wide variety of private and public sector transportation planning projects. Our multi- disciplinary approach requires working with architects, civil engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientist and transportation engineers.
This posting is for one (1) Planning Co-op Student position for a duration of four (4) months, that will commence in January 2023.
Your Key Responsibilities
You can expect opportunities to work on projects that include:
- Transportation master planning
- complete streets design
- urban design
- transit service
- public sector policy development
- public consultation
- active transportation design
- Parking studies
- Traffic impact analysis
Your Capabilities & Credentials
- The candidates will be highly motivated, willing to work in both an individual and team-oriented environment
- Previous transportation planning experience is an asset, but not necessarily a requirement
- Strong organizational skills and understanding how to prioritize
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge and experience of transportation planning theory with a demonstrated interest in at least one of the following:
- Electric Vehicle Charging
- Mobility Hubs
- Big Data / Machine Learning in transportation planning
- Curbside management
- Autonomous Vehicles
- Active transportation facilities
- Creative problem solving and analytical skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel is required
- Knowledge of Adobe Suite, AutoCAD (or similar drafting software), ITE trip/parking generation manuals and ArcGIS (or similar mapping software) is considered an asset not a requirement
- A valid driver’s license is an asset
Education and Experience
This opportunity is specifically for post-secondary students enrolled in the Undergraduate or Graduate Honours Planning or Engineering programs (Co-op)
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
