Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team of transportation professionals servicing state and municipal clients in Maine, New Hampshire, and throughout New England. This position would be based out of the Portland, ME or Auburn, NH office, but you would be part of a larger New England transportation design group with offices in South Burlington, VT; Burlington & Boston, MA; and several other satellite offices. The New England structures group consists of about 30 bridge staff with varied experience and project backgrounds; at times we support projects for other offices across the Country.

The role of a Senior Structural Engineer is to lead engineering teams on large projects. You will be responsible for preparing designs and ensuring the development and delivery of successful structural projects such as bridges, large culvert structures, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, retaining walls, multi-use trail structures, railroad infrastructure, and public spaces.
 

The Senior Structural Engineer will provide direct supervision; act as an advisor and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the preparation and coordination of construction contract specifications and plans for medium to large multidiscipline transportation projects.
  • Supervises the work of other engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Performs on technically complex projects and acts as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members.
  • Stays up to date on regulatory and design code changes and may establish working relationships with regulatory officials.
  • Leads structure inspections and load ratings.
  • Provides construction support services including submittal review, resolution of field conflicts, and developing solutions.
  • Project management, including the managing of client relationships and bringing in new state and municipal clients.
  • Responsible for invoicing and managing financial performance of project budgets using PM dashboard access.
  • Writes and negotiates proposals and contract amendments as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agencies.
  • Coordinates with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
  • Technical expert in all relevant areas of design and understanding of various design methods.
  • Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Thorough understanding of MaineDOT, Maine Turnpike, and NHDOT design standards and practices.
  • Proficient in MicroStation and other relevant design and analysis software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Understands client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, invoicing, and collecting accounts receivable.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions to others
  • Ability to create and interpret sketches, drawings, reports, and other similar materials.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer required, Master’s degree in Structural Engineering desired. Minimum of 10 years of experience.

Position will primarily be in an office setting; may require some field work.
The ability to work some from home will be extended to the candidate once in-office working relationships are established.
