Your Opportunity
In this role, you will draw on your strong engineering knowledge and deep industry experience to consistently produce superior deliverables that meet project requirements and exceed project manager and client expectations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Serves as the Lead Electrical Engineer and internal technical design expert on assigned projects.
- Performs field investigations and analyzes existing conditions to develop comprehensive engineering solutions.
- Perform power system studies including short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies.
- Applies strong electrical engineering skills and knowledge to research and develop solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Prepares required calculations to meet project requirements.
- Supports project requirements including basis-of design narratives, cost estimates, drawing documentation, systems design, and technical specifications.
- Collaborates with project managers and supporting design staff as part of a coordinated design team.
- Actively participates in the development of junior level design staff through work on projects as well as serving as a trainer, mentor, and resource.
- Effectively delegates work to production support staff.
- Reviews drawings and research electrical and safety code issues to comply with national, state, local, and client regulations.
- Interacts with clients and project stakeholders.
- Communicates with manufacturers and contractors to address challenges and develop practical designs.
- Provides input or leads the creation and editing of technical specifications.
- Develops contract documents that meet required codes, client requirements, and quality assurance standards.
- Resolves design conflicts and questions and provides recommendations to address issues and add value.
- Understands and works within project budgets and schedules to help project team meet project financial and schedule goals.
- Manages electrical-specific projects.
- Collaborates with the practice and market leaders to obtain and disseminate technical knowledge.
- Acts as QC reviewer on projects and participates in project Peer Reviews.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Deep electrical design knowledge, including but not limited to electrical, lighting, telecommunications, low-voltage systems, and fire/life safety systems, device layouts, circuiting, panel schedules and load calcs, riser diagrams, and schedules.
- Ability to independently prepare and review detailed drawings.
- Ability to integrate design elements with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
- Ability to communicate effectively with remote design team members, management, and production staff.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Knowledge of specialty engineering applications such as SKM Power Tools and lighting calculation software.
- Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to develop concepts and ideas into deliverables.
- Ability to demonstrate a credible and trustworthy presence through professionalism, demeanor, and technical knowledge.
- Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively support technical project consultation with key clients and project stakeholders.
- Familiarity with CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software; in particular, AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field plus 8-10 years of relevant experience. Alaska Professional Engineering license or intent to obtain license. Familiarity with various construction delivery process, such as Design-Build is a plus.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
