Our Bridges group, in Saskatchewan provides inspection, planning, design and construction administration services for a wide variety of infrastructure owners in Saskatchewan. The role of a Senior Structural Technologist that specializes in bridges requires comprehensive and broad Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) skills and technical knowledge in several areas within the structural engineering discipline to prepare drawings / specifications, supervise construction projects, administer construction contracts, and inspect in-service structures.
Your Opportunity
Stantec is currently seeking a Senior Structural Technologist that specializes in bridges to join our Bridges group, located in our Regina, SK or Saskatoon, SK office. Reporting to the Saskatchewan Bridge Team Leader, this position will give you the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including multi-disciplinary design-bid build and alternative-delivery projects, which allows you to develop your experience on coordinating with project managers and design engineers. This includes preparation of preliminary and detailed design drawings, checking of structural drawings, calculations of structural quantities, review of shop drawings, and participation in structural inspections and testing, technical documentation, construction supervision, and other related activities. Your Key Responsibilities
- Preliminary and detailed drafting of new bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and rehabilitation of existing structures;
- Preparation of specifications;
- Conduct inspections and field testing of existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls and prepare inspection reports;
- Construction administration and supervision of various bridge construction projects, including working and interacting with contractors;
- Project management;
- Business development which includes proposal preparation, project planning, and estimating; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- The ideal candidate will meet the following education and experience requirements:
- Diploma from a Technician or Technologist program in Structural, Civil or Transportation Engineering;
- 7+ years of experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, preferably in a consulting/design environment;
- Experience with highway, rail and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls and other civil structures;
- Working knowledge of Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways drafting standards and specifications;
- Construction supervision and contract administration experience is an asset;
- Bridge inspection and testing experience is an asset;
- Technical writing is an asset;
- Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams;
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills;
- Excellent technical, interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
This position will be a combination of office and field work.
