Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking multiple Project Engineers to join our Mining team in the Southwest USA, based out of one of our offices in Salt Lake City, UT, Chandler, AZ or Denver, CO.  As a Project Engineer / Project Engineering Manager you will serve various clients as part of mining studies and/or detailed engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) projects for surface and underground mining.

 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct a team of engineers and designers in the planning and execution of project work including scoping, asset integrity assessments, feasibility studies, detailed engineering and technical support during construction and commissioning.
  • Regularly interface with the Client on project technical issues, while ensuring the identification and socialization of value opportunities, risks and mitigation to the project team and/or Client as applicable. 
  • Implementing, maintaining, evaluating, and adjusting engineering processes on projects. This includes confirmation that mandated quality control steps are being followed, including Stantec’s Prevention Through Design and Hazard/Constructability Review programs. 
  • Owning, monitoring, and reporting on engineering budget, progress, managing to engineering/procurement/construction schedules, and driving change management processes as they relate to engineering and design.
  • Delivering the project’s engineering deliverables on schedule in accordance with corporate and project processes and standards, while ensuring that multi-disciplinary interfaces are correct and complete. 
  • Provide and/or coordinate engineering involvement in procurement and construction work packages, including scopes of supply/work, technical bid evaluations, recommendations to award, vendor/contractor data review and responses to RFIs.
  • Provide input, leadership and direction for the integration of engineering inputs into project cost estimates and execution schedules. 
  • Support Stantec’s risk lead and/or client’s risk management programs.

 

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • An understanding of engineering management, risk management, or cost engineering techniques as part of mining studies or detailed engineering projects. 
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere including involvement in technical business development.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience.
  • Strong mentoring skills and desire to encourage and coach junior staff.
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices as needed.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university. 
  • Professional Engineering license (or the ability to obtain a license) is preferred. 
  • Experience with leading the production of engineering document and drawing packages, and a comprehensive understanding of associated quality and document control methods. 
  • 5-10 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining, with 3 or more years’ experience managing engineering/design teams working on major projects.
