Your Opportunity
As an Urban Planner within our Community Development business line, you will have the opportunity to work on projects that support land development, with a team of specialized site developers. Stantec partners with industry leading developers who demonstrate a high level of ethical and professional standards, building complete and inclusive communities, missing middle housing opportunities, and needed community infrastructure. There is in-house support from civil and stormwater engineers, landscape architects, and surveyors to provide a complete spectrum of services for the development community. We connect the people, places, and resources that take a project from concept to reality.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Represent interests of our clients’ with clarity and integrity at Council meetings, meetings with municipal staff, Committee meetings, and the public.
- Oversees team members while working on projects. Giving direction to team members on projects/tasks.
- Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of planning justification reports, planning opinion letters, land use due diligence reports, or similar, while demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the Planning Act, and ability to interpret local Official Plans and by-laws.
- Ability to attend evening meetings, when required.
- Completes tasks and delegates specific tasks to other team members as appropriate.
- Effectively coordinates with the project team through the planning and design phase of projects.
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates the technical aspects of assigned projects.
- Performs due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new project.
- Projects costs and forecasts future trends related to land use or development.
- Communicates effectively with clients to resolve technical project issues, present and explain reports and designs and provide service to meet client’s goals.
- Works within defined project scopes, budgets and schedules.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Thorough understanding of planning and design concepts and best practices, with knowledge of the building code
- Effective communicator and able to work in a team environment.
- Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Must have valid G license in the Province of Ontario, and ability to travel to meetings.
- Working knowledge of relevant drafting/design software, such as AutoCAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat, would be considered an asset.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, or related field.
- Require RPP registration in the Province of Ontario, or ability to obtain such registration in a timely manner.
- Pre-qualification at the Ontario Land Tribunal will be considered equivalent to this requirement.
- Minimum of 5-6 years of experience.
