Your Opportunity

In this position as an Intermediate Distribution Designer, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. You will work on small to medium sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include stakeholder coordination, calculations, and field work. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.

  • Lead small to medium projects or programs independently

  • Support Engineer-of-Record, Project Manager, and other project staff. Mentor junior engineers, technologists, and designers.

  • Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Perform detail design for a power distribution system which includes overhead and underground systems.

  • Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

  • Perform and lead site visits before performing detail design.

  • Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

  • Implements sustainable design principles.

  • Performs calculations to analyze and design electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Overhead and underground distribution line design experience serving BC Hydro and/ or other utilities in North America.
  • Working knowledge of power structure analysis software such as SPIDAcalc, PLS CADD, or similar, is an asset.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy; Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and electrical design principles.
  • Knowledge of Engineering/Design Standards and Codes are an asset.
  • Able to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to lead a group of designers and drafters, pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up. Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn and fulfill client expectations.
  • Well organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
  • Must be able to be a part of cross-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals
  • Experience in project management considered an asset
  • Field review and commissioning experience is considered an asset
  • Class 5 driver’s license and focused on safety

Education and Experience

Diploma/degree from a recognized technical institute or university with at least three to five years electric power utility experience (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Power). Co-ops and internships will be considered.

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
