Stantec’s Calgary office has an immediate opportunity for an Junior Interior Designer to become part of our dynamic team. We are looking for a designer who acts as a mediator to bring voice and amplify a position where interior design is interdisciplinary in nature: a dialogue formed by architecture, art, graphics, product design, fashion, film, engineering, history, literature, philosophy, psychology; someone excited to explore the intangible in shaping the tangible. What is the work you will be doing?
- Prepare engineering designs from conceptual design, through tender to construction.
- Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, and engineering drawings for concrete, steel, masonry and wood building structures.
- Work with team members in determining viable solutions for design issues.
- Work to and meet project time lines and budgets.
- Coordinate design work with other disciplines, other offices, and other project team members.
- Support Construction Administration personnel including field reviews and co-ordination, review and issuance of change orders, clarifications and RFI responses on an occasional or as required basis.
- Coach Junior Staff members informally or through formal presentations.
- Participate in business development activities.
- Assist the management team in developing tools and techniques for the execution of daily duties.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and experience with structural finite element engineering design software such as ETABS, SAP, and STAAD.
- Collaborate on the development of various interior design projects, with a focus on corporate workplace, commercial projects, healthcare, education and recreation projects.
- Work as part of the design team providing design and graphic support to lead designer or architect.
- Produce space plans, furniture plans, ceiling plans, elevations, interior & millwork details and finished presentation documentation.
- Work cooperatively with multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, clients, and others. Maintain effective communication and cooperation with and among these individuals.
- Understand requirements of the plans, life safety issues, building codes and other technical aspects.
- Support good policies on project delivery, quality control, and safety.
Do you have these professional or academic certifications?
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Interior Design or related degree at an accredited institution.
- Proficient in Sketch-up and/or other similar modeling and presentation software and In Design. Ideally have a working knowledge of Revit. - Proficient free hand sketching.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others. Also, the ability to work in an energetic and challenging work environment.
- Essential skills in space planning and conceptual design, as well as the ability to clearly present ideas to team members and clients.
Working Conditions
Primarily office work with some need to be onsite depending upon the projects being worked on.
