Your Opportunity
The role of a Construction Manager/Civil Engineer in Training is to work on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer/designer. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks including calculations and field work.
As a Construction Manager/Civil Engineer in Training, you will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments and may also assist in the analysis of proposed projects.
Your Key Responsibilities

Observe, review, coordinate, plan, and implement construction projects.

Monitor the progress of construction activities while communicating updates and recommendations.

Evaluate plans and design specifications.

Reviews change orders and field orders.

Manage deadlines, prioritize assignments, prepare final documentation, and coordinate resources for permits and licenses.

Train and mentor junior staff.

Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

Supports project team in design documentation, plans, and reports for relevant project design elements.

Perform field work including site evaluations, surveying, construction oversight and inspection.

Development of three-dimensional models of civil systems.

Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases including site plans, utility plans, roadway layouts, stormwater systems and other construction components as part of a Civil Engineering Project.

Assists in development plan reviews for development applications submitted to the city by comparing development design components to community standards.

Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.

Assists with the development of job specific discipline specifications.

Assists in the evaluation and selection of civil systems and materials.

Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.

Performs calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
Your Capabilities and Credentials

Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Suite, Civil3D, GIS or other technical software preferred.

Competent in knowledge of local, state and federal building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting which may include contractor, project team, and clients, and to engage in creative and critical thought and resolve conflict situations.

Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.

Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

Competent knowledge of critical path method scheduling.

Basic knowledge of civil systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

Basic understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

Strong time management skills to meet project budget and schedule with accuracy and completeness.

Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar material.

Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.

Must have a valid driver’s license, clear driving record, and ability to travel to other offices and project sites, including overnight stays, when needed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Construction Management or Engineering and EIT. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience. Working toward licensure.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. May require the ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods.
