This is a paid internship offering either full or part-time hours during the Summer of 2023. This is an office/field position offering the opportunity to work with industry leaders in the airport infrastructure design and construction. . Internships available in Boston, MA, New York City, and Portland, ME.
The role of a Civil Design Intern is to work as an integrated team member on small and large projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer and/or Project Manager in our Aviation Group. The Civil Design Intern will work to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering transportation systems for aviation related projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support our airport design, roadway design and structural engineering groups on a wide range of airport related projects.
- Support our airport construction engineering groups in the field
- Conducts basic calculations and assist in developing engineer's estimates
- Assist team in preparing CAD drawings and reports
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- An interest in civil engineering planning, design and construction.
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
- Ability to take initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
- Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of civil design
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral, written, and graphic communication skills
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for significant periods of time, ability to walk over/traverse uneven ground
- Valid Driver’s License
Education and Experience
- Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree engineering program
- Previous experience in Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Previous experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D a plus
- The desire to work in fast-past and team-oriented environment.
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work of varying durations may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
