Your Opportunity
Location: The majority of the work will be located in Boston, MA.
Stantec's New England Asset Management group has an immediate need for a Assistant Construction Manager with an interest in Asset Management and Civil Engineering.
This is a junior level position for a highly organized individual that is or is willing to become a subject matter expert in ADA standards and curb ramp construction. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, the ability to track statuses and activity on several different ongoing projects simultaneously, and excellent communication skills. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to work in a rewarding field and see the first-hand challenges that are facing our public works agencies by tracking work performance and schedule.
We are looking for Construction Managers or Civil Engineers who have a positive attitude, are creative and think outside the box, are fast learners, and enjoy working in the field.
Your Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for tracking and monitoring the construction progress of pedestrian improvement projects in the public right of way.
- Proactively identify, mitigate, and track recurring construction issues
- Attend coordination and progress meetings; make regular trips to sites during construction including bid walks, preconstruction walks, in-progress site visits, punch walks, and construction closeout
- Directly responsible for ensuring all data is collected for each newly constructed ADA curb ramp using ESRI ArcGIS, Cartegraph, or similar asset/work order management software.
- Ability to determine ADA compliance of pedestrian improvements in the public right of way and notify the Owner of non-compliant issues
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Owner on matters related to ADA standards, design, and construction layout
- Conduct daily field visits and assessments to ensure planned construction programs are met.
- Assist in preparing reports and materials related to site investigations, MAAB Variance applications, annual reporting, ADA Trainings, etc.
- Assist in pre-construction project planning, data gathering, and field investigations
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Familiarity with industry standard construction techniques and practices with a focus on demolition, setting of granite curb, and concrete flatwork
- Familiarity with ADA construction standards for pedestrian infrastructure or willingness to learn
- Working knowledge of survey equipment including level transits and total stations
- Ability to work in a field setting 80% of the time
- Demonstrate proficiency ESRI software and Microsoft Office.
- Pro-active attitude, attention to detail, desire to learn, punctual, and highly organized.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Must have the ability and desire to work outside
- Ideal candidate has residency in the Boston area.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Construction Management or Civil Engineering. Coursework dedicated to construction management, civil engineering, asset management/economics, and/or GIS is preferred.
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for short periods of time. Field work may include extensive data gathering and asset inspection with exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
